Helen A. Carter comes to Midnight Basketball League from Media General where as a CPA she works asAssistant Project Manager for the Mactive project handling all things finance related. She has served actively on the board of Richmond CASA for six years. "Anything children or animals I find to be something you can wrap your arms around." She knows that when teens and young adults see someone volunteering in human services, they take note. "I think that's huge”, she offers. “We should be role modeling for these children who are coming along." Her teen daughter also dedicates time to Richmond-area human services agencies. The mother of two takes her involvement with MBL personally, and hopes to bring her son to some practices.
"It's so far reaching, it's amazing. A lot of these children are in circumstances where they don't have someone in their life to remind them that they have everything they need to get the job done. Giving a child skill sets to get a job or helping them get a GED to build self-respect and self-esteem, that inner self confidence, will carry through in everything they do. Maybe that child will go out and help someone else."
Carter admires the talented people behind MBL's success and has great respect for the President, Robin Foster (2007-2010).“Robin lives it. She is amazing”.
